Boys Stingers
The Boys Stingers program is for Boys in 1st and 2nd grade. The program is a fully padded program following the USA Lacrosse program for 8U, where the players are fully padded, and the games are 4 vs 4, with no face offs, limited body contact and limited stick checking. The focus of this program is to teach the basic skills of lacrosse through practicing and game play.
We will have a parent's meeting on December 17, 2024, at 7PM at the Brecksville Recreation Center's community room. We would like as many parents as possible with interested children in this age group present at the meeting for a roundtable discussion to help frame the newly formatted Stingers program.
We Need Your Help
We need help from parents to coach! Please don't worry that you never played or don't know anything about lacrosse! All of our programs are made up of volunteers. Most of our coaches started with minimal knowledge of the game and learned form others. The program will provide you with numerous resources to educate and orient you to the game. This will include mentorship from coaches from our older programs, assistance from High School players, and practice plans with drills that we have ran before that will help to teach fundamentals.
When, Where, What
Initially we are proposing this program take place twice a week starting in April: one weekday for practice and one day on the weekend for games. Games will be intrasquad and internal to just the Stingers program, with teams created on gameday. If at some point other clubs in Northeast Ohio have teams in this age group, we can schedule games against them. We would like to have High School Players referee games, if possible.
Practice and games will take place at the following locations:
- Blossom Turf Field - 4400 Oaks Road
- Julie Billiart School (old Chippewa Elementary School) - 8611 Wiese Road
- Old Stadium Fields - 6919 Stadium Drive
Cost
The registration fee is $150 per player, including a pinnie, player insurance, field fees, and field equipment (balls, goals, etc.).
Since this program is fully padded, each player is required to obtain equipment at their own cost. Please access the Resources Tab on this website and review the Equipment Guide. The main equipment will consist of a stick, helmet, shoulder pads, elbow pads and gloves. You can purchase used or new equipment. Additionally, various retailers offer full gear kits. We can potentially work with you and selected retailers to see if we can get a bulk deal on new equipment kits. Additional equipment would include a mouth guard, an athletic supporter and cup, and cleats.
